Franklin Square, once called the Northeast Square, sits to the northeast of the National Constitution Center in Independence National Historical Park.  It is one of five famous Philadelphia squares.  The square's eastern border offers a close-up view of a bolt of lightning that is memorial to Benjamin Franklin, for whom the square was renamed.  During the Revolution the square held a powder house, and in the War of 1812 it served as a drilling ground for troops.
