The Academy of Music (Seating Chart) is a National Historic Landmark opened to the public in 1857.  It is the oldest grand opera house in the nation that is still used for its original purpose.  Operated by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, it is located in the heart of the Avenue of the Arts, Philadelphia's premier arts district.  The main hall (capacity 2,897) is constantly in use for concerts, operas, ballets, and other events. The Ballroom (capacity 350), was inspired by the design of the Hall of mirrors at Versailles.  The Academy of Music is provides staging for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet, and Broadway at the Academy.

The Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball is a major annual event in Philadelphia. The Concert and Ball hosts local and international attendees, guest artists and conductors, and is one of the most successful fundraising events in the country.  Tours of the Academy are available and schedules may be obtained by contacting the manager's office.
